The Fordhall Flock
Our flock of sheep, like the cattle, live entirely off our traditional chemical free pastures. Our natural woodlands provide all the shelter they could need and our spring fed pools have a ready supply of fresh water. Rotation of these lush pastures also helps to protect them from health problems and so veterinary intervention is only used in the rare emergency.
Furthermore, grazing in synchronisation with the cattle promotes all varieties of grass (both tall and short) to be grazed allowing thick and vigorous growth to continue in our pastures all year round. Our sheep especially relish Sheep's Fescue, which is rich in Saccharine matter.
Our flock of sheep lamb at Fordhall each spring. An opportunity to feed caid lambs at this time is usually available but we advise you ring in advance.
As you can probably tell we take pride in rearing animals naturally and therefore, do not give any additives, growth promoters or routine antibiotics at any stage of the animals life. There aren't many farms that can genuinely make this claim; we're one of the few.
If you have any more questions regarding our farming system or the way in which our livestock are reared please email the farm.
